Last Christmas, I was excited to receive a letter from Finland with a Santa Claus stamp. Santa said he will be heading to Hong Kong and I’ve since looked forward to his visit. Thankfully Christmas is just around the corner.

On National Day last year, my parents, friends and I went to watch the stunning and colourful firework show at Tsim Sha Tsui. There was a huge crowd and we were all very excited. I loved the excellent view of the harbour too.

During a trip to Hokkaido with my parents, I had my first encounter with penguins at Asahiyama Zoo and my second skiing experience. I had a great time even though it was minus 10 degrees! My favourite season is winter because I love snow.

Last Sunday, I went to Disneyland with my friends. There were beautiful Christmas trees and lights. When I put on 3D glasses, magic happened and all the lights transformed into snowflakes. It was really amazing! After watching the parade, we went home happily. We had a wonderful evening.

My birthday coincides with Christmas Eve. For my birthday party last year, my friends and relatives played games and enjoyed a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, and my favourite apple pie prepared by my parents. And we ended the day with a trip to see Tsim Sha Tsui’s Christmas lights.

Winter solstice is very important in Chinese culture. It is the shortest day of the year. It’s said that if it is rainy on winter solstice, then it will be sunny during CNY. Last year the solstice fell on December 21. I celebrated by eating sweet dumplings with my grandparents.

What kinds of Christmas tree did you encounter this year? I saw Christmas trees in all sorts of designs and colours in Causeway Bay. One of them had eyes; another was made of gigantic spoons. My favourite was inspired by pencil shavings, and was topped by a star-shaped pencil sharpener.

Every Christmas, my family likes to attend a concert of Christmas carols. This year’s was special. It had a Star Wars theme. Thus we showed up in Darth Vader helmets and carried lightsabres, and took photos with models of Stormtroopers. I wish the Star Wars characters would visit every Christmas.

I made friends with a snowman, took many pictures and played games at a carnival. As the New Year is here, I wish to send everyone my seasonal greetings and I hope that everyone will show a happy face. Happy 2017!

Last summer holiday - my favourite time of the year - my family visited my cousins who live in France. I was extremely excited to go to Europe for the first time. We visited the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, and I played trampoline with my cousins.

My favourite season is winter because Christmas is the time of the year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, throw a Christmas party, take photos, decorate our home, enjoy Christmas dinner with the family and receive many presents.

Last Christmas, my family attended my uncle’s wedding in Okinawa. My sister and I were thrilled to be the flower girls. Holding the wedding rings, I walked slowly ahead of the bride and her father. That festive season was particularly meaningful to us. It was filled with love and warmth.

This Christmas was a special one for us. Apart from buffets and Christmas lights, we accompanied our grandmother to the mainland where we attended a traditional Chinese wedding banquet that lasted for three days and had delicious food. We lived in a local village house which sat next to farmland and fishponds, so we became little farmers for a few days. We experienced a totally different life from Hong Kong. What a memorable trip!

I made chocolate chip cookies for the security guards of our apartment building to thank them for keeping us safe all year. They were so happy to receive my cookies. I also left a cookie out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. And the next morning, the cookie was gone!

My favourite season is winter. Last Christmas, my classmates and I enjoyed a great party with a feast of chicken, sushi and candies. We exchanged gifts, made piñata crafts and played blind man’s buff. During the game, one of the blindfolded classmates knocked the piñata down and spilled candies everywhere!

Every year, my family and I will count down the last seconds to the beginning of a new year. Last year, we went to our friends’ home, which has a view of the fireworks show, to celebrate. I hope I can welcome the New Year with my family every year.

I had a great time in South Korea with my family last Christmas. The scenery was fascinating. I went skiing for the first time. It wasn’t easy to balance, but my dad encouraged me to keep trying and I finally succeeded. Thanks, daddy!

Last summer, my family and I went to Maldives. I went snorkeling at the beach. I saw an octopus and a puffer fish in the coral reef. When I encountered the puffer fish, it blew up its body into a globular shape and spikes popped out. I was so scared!
