Wong Yu-ying (Lam Tin Methodhist Primary School,P6)

Liu Xiang won the 110m hurdles gold at the 2004 Olympics. He set a world record with a time of 12.88 seconds. He faced a lot of difficulties but he never stopped trying. He resolved problems and got great results. When things are difficult, I too will try harder.

Gangwani Lakshmi Ajay (Li Cheng Uk Government Primary School,P6)

The person I admire is Helen Adams Keller. She was a deaf and blind American author. Kellers teacher, Anne Sullivan, taught her to communicate and helped her flourish. Their story has been made into a widely known play and film called The Miracle Worker.

Julie Cheung Hiu-yung (St. Rose of Lima's School,P6)

The person I admire is the British writer Roald Dahl. He wrote books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda. I appreciate his sense of humour and his wild imagination. His stories are filled with exciting plots and magical creatures. I highly recommend his books.

Skills and stamina paved the way for Simone Biles’ success at the Rio Olympic Games. I admire her amazing ability to perfectly execute extreme gymnastic moves like a double layout with a half twist. She leaps over the walls of adversity with her strong will to pursue her dreams.

Have you ever heard of the fictional wizard named Harry Potter? J.K. Rowling is the mastermind behind that magical world of wizardry and witchcraft. I admire her vocabulary and creativity. After reading all her famous works, my writing has greatly improved. Platform 9 ¾, here we come!

The person I admire is my mom. She studied computer science in university, and so she is a computer expert. She is also a great cook who always prepares my favourite dishes. I am working hard so that one day I can be as good at computers as she is.

Siu Wing Yan Tiffany (Sacred Heart Canossian School (Private Section),P3)

Who’s my hero? He’s Ludwig van Beethoven, the famous German composer and pianist. He was so talented that he began performing at a young age. He was very determined. He turned deaf in his mid-forties, but he still continued writing music. He inspires me to keep going through tough times.

The person I admire is Andy Lau. He has donated a lot of money to charity to help the poor. I think he has a heart of gold because he is willing to help others. I hope I can learn from him.

The person I admire is American inventor Thomas Alva Edison. In his 84 years of life, he created more than 1,550 things. He was a good-humoured and patient person. When people laughed at him, he didn’t give up inventing. From Edison, I learnt to keep trying.

I admire Johann Sebastian Bach, the influential German composer. Bach inspires me to become a musician as he created wondrous music full of passion! My favourite piece is Inventio 13. I love how the two parts converse with each other, like life and the things around us!

The person I admire is my dad. He is a lawyer with a good sense of justice. He teaches me things about life. He is always funny. He knows how to make me laugh. I like having a drawing competition with him ¬– except he almost always wins!

Anthony Martial is my role model. A super striker, he won the 2015 Golden Boy Award for Europe’s best young soccer player. He never gets stressed and knows exactly how to thrust the ball into the net! His ability and attitude are worthy of our admiration.

My favourite athlete is Wong Chun-ting. He is an amazing Hong Kong table tennis player who ranks seventh in the world. I admire him because I like playing table tennis too and hope to represent our table tennis team at the Olympics in the future.

I look up to Brian Clark, the 9/11 terror attack survivor. While running for his life, he stopped to rescue a stranger buried beneath the rubble and they escaped seconds before the buildings collapsed. I would like to be as clear-headed and kind-hearted as he is in an emergency.

I admire Sally Ride, the first American female astronaut. She was one of five women chosen to work for NASA in 1978. As a mission specialist, she was confident and diligent and logged over 197 space hours. I hope I can become someone like her one day.

I look up to Mr Chu who has been my Taekwondo coach for over four years. We took this photo at a Taekwondo competition in Taiwan. He is humorous and yet demanding during training. He always drives me to perform better. I couldn’t have won all those medals without him.

The person I admire is Albert Einstein because he liked science, just like me. Although he got kicked out of school, he became a great inventor and scientist who discovered the formula E=mc2 and the theory of relativity. Although he created the atomic bomb, he was a peace-loving man.

I admire Marie Curie, a famous scientist who was born in Poland and studied in France. She is the only woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize twice. She discovered radium and polonium, and developed the X-ray. When I grow up, I want to be a great scientist like her!

The gifted Luke Skywalker in Star Wars is my role model. He has strong willpower to resist temptations and overcome frustrations. Through his compassion and love, Luke reignites the virtue in his evil father. I hope I can also bring out the good in the people around me.

When Jack Ma was little, he was poor but he never gave up. After failing entrance exams twice, he passed on the third try and went on to attend the Hangzhou Teachers’ Institute. Now he owns the online shopping platform Taobao that helps connect buyers and sellers. When we were little, we didn’t like studying and our grades were bad. Jack inspired us to strive for the best and never give up. Now we’ve become more active in class. We always look for solutions to our problems and talk to our teachers and our parents. Ma is our role model!

Lam Shun-hei (Sheng Kung Hui Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School,P6)

My role model is American swimmer Michael Phelps. He won the most medals in Olympic history. Apart from his successful sports career, he does plenty of charitable work. He started the Michael Phelps Foundation to promote healthy lifestyles and swimming. I learnt from him not to hesitate to help others.

Li Ka-shing is the person I admire. The 88-year-old is among the richest people in Hong Kong. His life story is an amazing rags-to-riches tale. He rose to become a successful businessman because of his diligence and intelligence. I hope I can become a successful person like him.

Pinky Sin (Carmel Leung Sing Tak School,P5)

Canadian athlete Terry Fox found he had bone cancer at the age of 18. Not long after losing his right leg to the disease, he ran across Canada with an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. He wanted fewer people to die of cancer. I admire his bravery.

The person I admire is Thomas Edison. Although he started his education late, he grew up to become a great scientist and inventor. He invented many things, like the Edison screw, the kinetoscope and the phonograph. I admire his intelligence.
