Liu Xiang won the 110m hurdles gold at the 2004 Olympics. He set a world record with a time of 12.88 seconds. He faced a lot of difficulties but he never stopped trying. He resolved problems and got great results. When things are difficult, I too will try harder.

The person I admire is Helen Adams Keller. She was a deaf and blind American author. Kellers teacher, Anne Sullivan, taught her to communicate and helped her flourish. Their story has been made into a widely known play and film called The Miracle Worker.

The person I admire is the British writer Roald Dahl. He wrote books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda. I appreciate his sense of humour and his wild imagination. His stories are filled with exciting plots and magical creatures. I highly recommend his books.

Who’s my hero? He’s Ludwig van Beethoven, the famous German composer and pianist. He was so talented that he began performing at a young age. He was very determined. He turned deaf in his mid-forties, but he still continued writing music. He inspires me to keep going through tough times.

I admire Sally Ride, the first American female astronaut. She was one of five women chosen to work for NASA in 1978. As a mission specialist, she was confident and diligent and logged over 197 space hours. I hope I can become someone like her one day.

I look up to Mr Chu who has been my Taekwondo coach for over four years. We took this photo at a Taekwondo competition in Taiwan. He is humorous and yet demanding during training. He always drives me to perform better. I couldn’t have won all those medals without him.

When Jack Ma was little, he was poor but he never gave up. After failing entrance exams twice, he passed on the third try and went on to attend the Hangzhou Teachers’ Institute. Now he owns the online shopping platform Taobao that helps connect buyers and sellers. When we were little, we didn’t like studying and our grades were bad. Jack inspired us to strive for the best and never give up. Now we’ve become more active in class. We always look for solutions to our problems and talk to our teachers and our parents. Ma is our role model!

Canadian athlete Terry Fox found he had bone cancer at the age of 18. Not long after losing his right leg to the disease, he ran across Canada with an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. He wanted fewer people to die of cancer. I admire his bravery.

The person I admire is Thomas Edison. Although he started his education late, he grew up to become a great scientist and inventor. He invented many things, like the Edison screw, the kinetoscope and the phonograph. I admire his intelligence.
